About ProofingSandy

With 11 years of experience as a proofreader at an ad agency, I'm much more accustomed to reading others' work than writing my own. (But every blogger needs to start somewhere, right?)

As the agency proofreader, I reviewed all sorts of marketing materials: coupons, recipes, brochures, websites, and of course, ads. It was my job to catch the stray typo, notice the extra space, delete the duplicate words, and ensure the piece matched the client's style. Overall, I was the fresh set of eyes, reading everything as the audience would. While the account and creative teams take care that the message is on target and will achieve the goal, I look for the little things. I worry about the details so they can focus on the big picture.

Proofreading is a part of my everyday life, even though I no longer hold that position. I notice misspellings, misplaced apostrophes, and misuse of the language anywhere there's a written word: newspaper, TV, or website. If it's being typed and published, it needs to be proofed before it goes out into the world.

Here, I write more than I read. When the mood strike, I share moments in my life, including friendship, family, nostalgia, holidays, and being a proofreader at heart. Check out my list of posts on the right. Select the most recent, or click on any one at random. May you find something you like.

And that's what I do.
